Zelensky and Pahlavi Discuss Iran and Russia’s Role in the War with Ukraine
World
On March 14, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky met in Paris with Reza Pahlavi, the son of the last Shah of Iran and an opposition figure. The main topic of the talks was support for a free Iran and preventing its cooperation with Russia.
The meeting took place following Zelensky’s talks with French President Emmanuel Macron. Zelensky and Pahlavi had previously met about a month ago at the Munich Security Conference.
The Ukrainian leader emphasized that the leadership of the Islamic Republic should not profit from the war, and that the Iranian people must determine their own destiny. He also thanked Pahlavi for supporting Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Concerns remain over the cooperation between Moscow and Tehran. Russia continues to be an ally of Iran and uses Iranian “Shahed” drones to strike Ukrainian territory, potentially diverting global attention from Russian aggression.
