20 Times More Students and 20 Hectares of Land: How Webster University Is Expanding in Tashkent
Uzbekistan
Amid a phenomenal twenty-fold spike in student enrollment since its inception, the government of Uzbekistan and the university's top management have approved an ambitious plan to construct a mega-campus on a vast territory and renewed their management agreement on fundamentally new terms.
The Minister of Higher Education, Kongratbay Sharipov, and the leadership of Webster University discussed strategic development projects for the Tashkent branch. Since 2019, the institution has demonstrated monumental growth, with its student body surging from 360 to 7,000, while the branch itself was named "Brand of the Year" three times.
To scale this success, the government allocated 20 hectares of land to the university. Currently, an academic building with 4,800 seats and a 500-bed student dormitory are under construction on the site. The primary legal outcome of the meeting was the agreement to extend the International Management Services Agreement (IMSA) under new conditions, propelling the academic partnership between Uzbekistan and the US to a higher level.
