4th Samarkand forum on human rights kicked off
This significant international event brought together participants from more than 50 countries, including representatives of governments, international organisations and leading human rights experts. President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev addressed the participants of the forum. The text was read by the Uzbek leader's press secretary Sherzod Asadov.

The theme of this year's forum is centred on the relationship between environmental issues and human rights. In the context of accelerating climate change, depletion of natural resources and environmental degradation, the protection of human rights is more relevant than ever. The Forum aims to develop sustainable solutions to minimise the negative impact of environmental issues on human rights.

The forum is moderated by First Deputy Speaker of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan, Director of the National Centre for Human Rights of Uzbekistan, Academician Akmal Saidov. He was elected to the UN Human Rights Committee for 2025-2028.

Akmal Saidov noted in his speech that climate change, air and water pollution, loss of biodiversity and other environmental problems directly affect such basic human rights as the right to life, health and a decent standard of living.

The 4th Samarkand forum on human rights confirmed Uzbekistan's status as an important centre of international dialogue on human rights issues. The forum contributed to strengthening cooperation between the countries, developing new strategies and approaches to the protection of human rights, and raising awareness of the international community of the importance of these issues. The participants in the forum expressed hope for continued fruitful co-operation and implementation of the planned initiatives in the future, which will contribute to the creation of a more just and humane world.
