523 People Given a Second Chance

On August 28, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed a decree granting amnesty to 523 individuals serving prison sentences, in honor of Uzbekistan’s 34th Independence anniversary.
According to the decree:
Among those pardoned are 8 foreign citizens, 45 women, 31 men over the age of 60, 220 people under 30 (including one minor), as well as several individuals previously involved in banned organizations.
The President instructed relevant ministries and agencies to support the reintegration of pardoned individuals into society, help them reunite with their families, find employment, and adopt a healthy lifestyle.
- 195 people were fully released,
- 147 were conditionally released early,
- sentences of 87 were replaced with lighter penalties,
- prison terms of 94 were reduced.
