Trump Says Putin and Xi Gave Assurances on Arms Supplies to Iran

U.S. President Donald Trump said that Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping had assured him that their countries would not supply weapons to Iran. Trump made the remarks in a post published on 24 July on the social media platform Truth Social.
According to Trump, Putin told him that Russia would not sell weapons to Iran. Trump also said the Russian president understands Washington's position that the United States sells weapons to NATO allies rather than directly to Ukraine, with the subsequent distribution determined by the purchasing countries.
Trump further stated that during a recent meeting in Beijing, Xi Jinping assured him that China, including Chinese companies, would not supply or sell weapons to Iran under any circumstances. The U.S. president said he accepted those assurances.
Trump concluded that, in his assessment, neither Russia nor China is a participant in the conflict involving Iran.
Separately, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, during talks with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio in Manila, reiterated Moscow's opposition to continued arms supplies to Ukraine. Rubio responded that U.S. policy on selling weapons through the NATO mechanism remains unchanged.
On 24 July, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said Moscow continues to take into account ongoing U.S. arms deliveries to Ukraine while assessing the position of the current U.S. administration.
