Uzbekistan Outlines Priorities for Future Chairmanship of Non-Aligned Movement

An Uzbek delegation led by Sodiq Safoyev, First Deputy Chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis, took part in a high-level commemorative meeting marking the 65th anniversary of the Non-Aligned Movement. The event was held in Belgrade on August 31 and September 1.
The meeting brought together senior representatives from more than 30 foreign countries, including delegations headed by heads of state and government, parliamentary speakers, deputy prime ministers and ministers.
In his address, the head of the Uzbek delegation highlighted the continued importance of the Non-Aligned Movement and outlined Uzbekistan’s preparations to chair the organization in 2027–2030. Priorities included initiatives put forward by Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev at international forums on peace and security, economic cooperation, climate change and youth engagement.
At the opening ceremony, the President of Serbia emphasized Belgrade’s historical role as the venue of the first Non-Aligned Movement conference in 1961. He noted that the movement’s core principles remain relevant today.
As part of the event, Aleksandar Vučić met with the Uzbek delegation. The sides noted the dynamic development of multifaceted relations between Uzbekistan and Serbia based on active dialogue between the two presidents. They also stressed the importance of expanding interparliamentary dialogue, cooperation in the economy, investment and trade, and the implementation of joint projects.
The Uzbek delegation also held meetings with Marina Raguš, Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly of Serbia, and other heads of foreign delegations.
