A New Railway Line Connecting Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan is Being Built
Uzbekistan
A new railway is under construction between Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, aimed at strengthening regional transport links and increasing the volume of freight transport between the two countries. An investment of 286 billion tenge has been allocated for the construction by the portfolio company of "Samruk-Kazyna" – "Kazakhstan Temir Zholy".
Currently, approximately 100 kilometers of track out of the planned 203 kilometers have been laid. Additionally, out of the planned 9.5 million cubic meters of earthworks, 1.4 million cubic meters (15%) have been completed.
The project involves 46 road construction machines and over 70 workers. It is planned to use locally produced materials in the construction.
During the construction phase, 3,400 temporary jobs will be created. Once the project is fully operational in 2027, it is expected to provide over 500 permanent jobs.
The commissioning of the new railway line will not only make freight transportation between the two countries more efficient and faster but also elevate regional cooperation to a new level. Moreover, it will significantly boost export and import volumes.
