AfD Submits Proposal to Bundestag to End Military and Financial Aid to Ukraine

Germany’s opposition Alternative for Germany (AfD) has submitted a draft resolution to the Bundestag calling for an end to military and financial assistance to Ukraine and for blocking its accession to the European Union. The proposal was presented on September 22, 2026.
Under the AfD proposal, Germany should also withdraw from sanctions that the party considers contrary to German interests. The document further calls for privileged access to Ukrainian raw materials in exchange for loans already provided to Kyiv, including rare-earth metals, gas and other resources.
The party also opposes EU security guarantees for Ukraine and calls for ending its accession process. At the same time, it proposes maintaining the possibility of humanitarian assistance to Ukraine.
The initiative drew sharp criticism from other parliamentary groups. CDU lawmaker Knut Abraham said the proposal amounted to supporting Vladimir Putin in the war against Ukraine. Green Party representative Robin Wagner described AfD lawmaker Markus Frohmaier’s speech as a “lecture written in the Kremlin” and accused the party of promoting “Putin propaganda.” SPD representative Ralf Stegner also said the AfD was taking Russia’s side. These assessments reflect the positions of the respective lawmakers.
The Bundestag debate therefore highlighted substantial differences among German parliamentary parties over military and financial assistance to Ukraine, its European integration and sanctions policy.
