Apple plans to release two prototypes of foldable iPhones
Technology
Two foldable devices, the iPhone and iPad, will be likely competitors to the Galaxy Z Flip and Z Fold, respectively.
According to The Information, Apple is developing at least two prototypes of iPhones that can fold similar to devices in Samsung's Galaxy Z Flip series. Despite active work on the project, there are no plans to begin mass production of foldable iPhones in the next two years. Engineers have faced design challenges, especially related to the vulnerability of foldable screens to damage.
Apple is also developing a foldable iPad, which is expected to be about the same size as the iPad Mini, with an eight-inch display. The company's engineers are working on reducing the visibility of the crease in the screen and creating a hinge that will help the display lie flat when unfolded.
There is currently no clarity on when Apple's foldable iPad will hit the market, but there is speculation of a possible release of the device in 2026 or 2027, possibly in time for the 20th anniversary of the iPhone series.
