Apple unveils iOS 18: new features, AI, and satellite messaging
On Monday, June 10, at the annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), Apple unveiled the highly anticipated features of the new operating system, iOS 18. The online-streamed event attracted millions of viewers worldwide, opening up new horizons for iPhone users.

Tap to Cash

One of the most noticeable additions is the Tap to Cash feature, which promises to simplify the process of monetary transfers. With it, users can send money through Apple Pay by simply tapping their phone to the recipient's device. This innovative method of fund transfer does not require the exchange of personal data, significantly enhancing security and convenience.

Personalization

Improvements in personalization were also introduced. iOS 18 will offer users the ability to change the color of app icons when switching to dark mode, freely move icons around the screen, and set individual authentication for each app through password, Face ID, or Touch ID. This will make the iPhone interface even more personalized and user-friendly.

Photos

Significant changes were made to the Photos app as well. The new design will make it easier to manage and customize photos. Users will be able to easily sort photos by people, days, and trips using the updated "Filter" button. New cataloging principles will also be introduced in the iPhone's Mail app, simplifying the search and organization of emails.

Satellite Messaging

An interesting innovation is the support for satellite capabilities in iMessage. Now, users will be able to send and receive messages even when outside the coverage area of mobile networks or Wi-Fi. This feature will be available on iPhone 14 and newer models updated to iOS 18. It is important to note that a similar technology is already used on Google Pixel and Samsung Galaxy smartphones.

Apple Intelligence

Furthermore, the new version of iOS will feature Apple Intelligence artificial intelligence. This system, integrated into device software, will allow users to create emojis, generate images and videos, as well as compose brief summaries of emails. Apple also announced plans to integrate OpenAI's ChatGPT into Siri, making the voice assistant even more contextually oriented and user-friendly.

Smart Home

Among other iOS 18 novelties are new smart home management features and the ability to handwrite formulas in the calculator using a stylus. It is expected that users will be able to experience all these innovations in September 2024 when iOS 18 becomes available for download.

Along with iOS 18, Apple also introduced new operating systems for Mac, iPad, Apple Watch, and the Apple Vision Pro mixed reality glasses. These updates promise to make the company's devices even more integrated and functional.

Elon Musk

Against the backdrop of this presentation, Tesla, SpaceX, and xAI founder Elon Musk expressed dissatisfaction with Apple's decision to implement artificial intelligence at the operating system level, which may create new challenges for the company in the future. Nevertheless, Apple confidently continues to move forward, integrating cutting-edge technologies and improving the user experience.
