In the context of changing global trade rules and unstable logistics, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev announced the establishment of the Light Industry Development Agency, which will be headed by Nozimjon Kholmurodov. The new structure will receive $200 million to support the industry and strictly control its effectiveness.
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev emphasized the need for a special approach to developing light industry amid rapidly changing global trade rules and ongoing logistics disruptions.
The head of state announced the creation of the Agency for the Development of Light Industry, which will oversee the textile, leather, and silk sectors. The agency will be headed by First Deputy Minister of Investments, Industry, and Trade Nozimjon Kholmurodov. A council of experienced entrepreneurs will operate under the agency, along with a dedicated $200 million fund to provide affordable working capital to enterprises.
The new body has been tasked with working with entrepreneurs to develop solutions for reducing production costs, increasing manufacturing and exports, and doubling the export of finished goods through the “processing in the customs territory” regime. It will also focus on strengthening cooperation and rehabilitating underperforming enterprises.
In collaboration with international consultants, a development program for the textile sector through 2030 will be prepared, alongside proposals to modernize the leather, silk, and carpet industries.
The president stressed that the announced support measures amount to 7 trillion soums and demanded corresponding results from cluster and enterprise leaders. Strict control will be maintained over the implementation of the assigned tasks.
