Syrian President addresses the nation, urges calm and praises international mediation efforts.
Syrian President Ahmad Ash-Shara addressed the nation regarding recent unrest in As-Suwayda, calling the developments a “dangerous turning point.” He stated that the situation was brought under control due to timely state intervention, which helped avoid full-scale escalation.
Ash-Shara condemned Israeli airstrikes on southern Syria and government facilities in Damascus, describing them as aggravating the already fragile environment. In response, the U.S., Arab countries, and international partners increased mediation efforts.
Ash-Shara stressed that only the state can ensure national sovereignty and security, warning against the use of As-Suwayda as a geopolitical tool in external conflicts. He highlighted the importance of Arab tribal cooperation in maintaining the ceasefire and restoring order.
He expressed gratitude to the U.S., Turkey, Gulf states, the EU, Russia, and China for their active and constructive role. He reaffirmed the government's commitment to protect all minorities and religious communities, including the Druze, and vowed accountability for all violations.
"The strength of Syria lies in the unity of its people and wise leadership. Only through unity can we build a stable future," Ash-Shara concluded.
