Large parts of Asia are experiencing one of the most severe periods of the current monsoon season. Extreme rainfall and widespread flooding have affected China, India, parts of Bangladesh and the Himalayan region, posing serious risks to millions of people.

Torrential rains have continued for several days across southern and central China. At least 39 people have been killed in the disaster, while several others remain missing.

In India, monsoon rains have spread across almost the entire country, triggering flooding and worsening conditions in several regions.

According to the World Meteorological Organization, extreme rainfall is becoming one of the fastest-growing climate risks in Asia. The widespread flooding comes amid other major weather anomalies, including record-breaking heat affecting Europe.
