Kyrgyzstan's State Committee for National Security (SCNS) announced that they had stopped a planned attempt to cause mass unrest using weapons and stirring up ethnic conflict, which was meant to lead to a government takeover.

According to Kaktus.media, citing the SCNS, since early 2025 a group of people who were working on such plans had been under surveillance. These people were reportedly acting under the guidance of some “ideological leaders,” though the SCNS did not say exactly who they were.

One of the planned provocations involved making a fake video showing a “beaten-up Kyrgyz girl in light clothing,” supposedly asking for help after being assaulted by foreigners. The SCNS said this video was meant to stir public outrage and patriotic anger, and trigger ethnic clashes similar to those that happened in Bishkek in May 2024.

According to the security services, once the video was released, armed groups that had been prepared in advance were planning to stage fights and riots in areas where foreigners live and work.

“All of this was aimed at discrediting the authorities and stirring up public dissatisfaction to create the right conditions for large-scale protests, funded by what they called the ‘opposition,’” the SCNS said in a statement.

The SCNS reported that these activities were being coordinated from abroad. Investigations are now underway to identify and detain everyone involved. Members of the group who were active inside Kyrgyzstan have already been arrested. One of the suspected organizers is currently abroad — reportedly in the United Arab Emirates.

So far, 15 people have been detained, including the leaders of two regional community groups. According to MTRK "Mir," those involved had recruited around a thousand young people to destabilize the situation. Searches of their homes and offices turned up documents showing they were preparing for riots.

The SCNS said the coup was planned to happen after the parliamentary elections, scheduled in Kyrgyzstan for November 28.

It’s worth noting that in 2024, the security services also reported stopping at least two attempts to overthrow the government.
