Britain Assembles Coalition of Ten to Deter Russia

Great Britain is initiating the creation of a powerful naval partnership among ten Northern European nations. Amid a sharp surge in Russian naval activity, London is banking on deep integration and robotics, promising to turn aircraft carriers into bases for drone swarms and build an impenetrable barrier from the North Atlantic to the Arctic.
Great Britain has officially unveiled an ambitious plan to form a new naval alliance uniting ten Northern European states. The partnership will be built upon the existing Joint Expeditionary Force (JEF), which includes the United Kingdom, the Nordic countries, the Baltic states, the Netherlands, and Iceland. As stated by the First Sea Lord, General Gwyn Jenkins, the primary objective is to protect the "open maritime border" against the increasing activity of Russian armed forces. According to London, the number of "intrusions" by Russian vessels into British territorial waters has increased by nearly a third over the past two years alone.
A central pillar of the new doctrine is technological superiority. Jenkins announced plans to bring the fleet to full combat readiness by 2029. Unmanned systems will be the key element: within the next two years, combat ships will be accompanied by autonomous escort vessels, and by 2029, aircraft carriers will be equipped with vertical-takeoff jet drones. The compactness of such UAVs will allow up to 80 units to be stationed on a single carrier, radically enhancing the alliance's collective combat power without the need to construct dozens of new massive ships.
London emphasizes that the new alliance is not an alternative to NATO but a necessary supplement capable of responding swiftly to threats in the Far North and North Atlantic regions. General Jenkins recalled recent "secret operations" by Russian submarines that required an immediate response from the Royal Navy while global attention was fixed on conflicts in the Middle East. The signing of an official declaration for this long-term partnership is scheduled for the end of this year, laying the foundation for Europe's new maritime security architecture for decades to come.
