Case Against Former Uzbekneftegaz Head Bahodir Sidikov Reaches Court

A criminal court has begun hearing the case against former Chairman of the Management Board of Uzbekneftegaz JSC Bahodir Sidikov and eight other defendants. The case also involves former company executives as well as representatives of Enter Engineering and Eriell Management.

According to the case materials, Sidikov is charged under the Criminal Code with embezzlement through misappropriation, abuse of official authority and official forgery. Depending on their alleged roles, the remaining defendants face charges including large-scale embezzlement, official forgery and abuse of office.

Among those standing trial are former Deputy Chairman of Uzbekneftegaz Bakhtiyor Anarkulov, several former company officials, and representatives of Enter Engineering and Eriell Management.

Earlier this year, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev announced the results of a large-scale audit of Uzbekneftegaz and the Agency for State Assets Management, during which authorities reported uncovering embezzlement amounting to billions of soums. The court proceedings mark the next stage in the legal review of the case.
