Charles Michel: Europe must prepare for war

If Europe wants to exist in the world, it should switch to a "war economy" regime and significantly strengthen its defence capabilities in the face of the threat posed by Russia, European Council President Charles Michel said on 18 March. This was reported by The Kyiv Independent.

Charles Michel: Europe must prepare for war
“If we do not get the EU's response right and do not give Ukraine enough support to stop Russia, we are next. We must therefore be defense-ready and shift to a 'war economy' mode,” he wrote.

Earlier we reported that the German Union of Cities and Communities called on the federal authorities for billions of dollars in investments to protect German civilians from possible war, as well as to put mothballed bomb shelters back into operation.

In turn, on 19 December 2023, Putin stated at an enlarged meeting of the Russian Defence Ministry board that the Russian Federation was not going to war with Europe and is not going to war now.

Furthermore, when asked by journalist Tucker Carlsen, "Can you imagine a scenario where you would send Russian troops to Poland?" Putin replied, "Only in one case: if Poland attacks Russia. Why? Because we have no interest in Poland, Latvia or anywhere else. Why would we do that?”
