China will hold a joint military exercise with five Southeast Asian countries in mid- to late November. Forces from Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam will take part in the exercise, which will be held in South China's Guangdong province.

China announced yesterday, 12 November, that it will hold joint military exercises with five member states of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) aimed at counter-terrorism and maritime security.

According to a statement from China's Ministry of National Defence, the AMAN-2023 exercise will take place from mid to late November off the coast of Zhanjiang in South China's Guangdong province.

ASEAN members Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos will participate in the training.

The exercise aims to enhance counter-terrorism and anti-piracy capabilities in urban and maritime settings among participating countries for regional peace and stability.

Exercise Aman is organised at the initiative of China and Malaysia.

This year, China will hold the exercise for the fifth time, while Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam will participate for the first time.
