Global expenditures on nuclear weapons in 2024 exceeded $100 billion for the first time, reaching a record high. This is stated in the latest report of the International Campaign for the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (ICAN).

According to the International Campaign for the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (ICAN) report, in 2024, nine nuclear powers spent a total of $104.5 billion on maintaining and modernizing their arsenals - an 11% increase compared to the previous year.

In terms of time, it's almost $190,000 per minute.

Spending leaders:
  • USA - $56.8 billion (almost half of all expenses);
  • China - $12.5 billion;
  • Great Britain - $10.4 billion;
  • Russia - $8.1 billion;
  • France - $6.9 billion;
  • India - $2.6 billion;
  • Pakistan and Israel - $1.1 billion each;
  • North Korea - $630 million

Total nuclear expenditures over the past five years (2020-2024) have reached $415.9 billion.

Despite international agreements, the trend remains dangerous - leading powers continue to increase nuclear budgets, reflecting growing tensions and geopolitical risks.
