$150 Million to Be Allocated for Fish Farming Development in Andijan
Uzbekistan
On Thursday, April 16, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a meeting to discuss the priority tasks for the comprehensive development of Andijan region. It was noted that only 23% of the 5,700 hectares of artificial water reservoirs in the region are currently used for intensive fish farming.
An entrepreneur from the Andijan district proposed a project to develop intensive fish farming on 320 hectares, involving 500 households, with an investment of $15 million.
As part of this project, there are plans to develop a local fish breed adapted to regional conditions using 27 species of carp.
For the first time, the Asian Development Bank has agreed to provide $15 million in direct financing. A project office will be established under the regional administration, and a tripartite agreement will be signed between the entrepreneur, local authorities, and the bank.
Officials have been tasked with attracting $100 million in foreign investment and launching at least 5–6 similar projects on 1,200 hectares by the end of the year.
In total, $150 million will be allocated to develop fish farming across Uzbekistan, with $50 million specifically designated for Andijan.
“The reforms we have initiated are not just numbers or reports. These are real changes that impact every family and every individual, aimed at improving prosperity and development. Today we have identified the most important tasks to elevate Andijan’s transformation to the next level and resolved financial matters that affect the spirit of our people and entrepreneurs.
If we all work together in unity, our achievements will multiply, and no goal will be out of reach. Andijan will flourish even more — I truly believe in that!”
– said the head of state in conclusion.
During the meeting, reports from regional and national officials were heard, along with proposals from entrepreneurs.
