The Polish parliament has elected Donald Tusk, a pro-European politician, as the next Prime Minister of the country, and he is tasked with forming a new government of the Republic. This is reported by DW.
The former head of the Cabinet Mateusz Morawiecki for the second time failed to win the confidence of the Sejm, and the deputies voted in favour of Tusk's candidacy.
The task of appointing the prime minister fell to the MPs, and the majority supported Tusk. On Tuesday morning, the prime minister-designate will announce the programme and the list of ministers.
Tusk is expected to present the government programme to parliament on 12 December, after which he will be given a vote of confidence. The new cabinet could be sworn in on 13 December, allowing Tusk to attend the EU summit in Brussels later this week as Poland's new prime minister.
