Durov’s Lawyers: “Bail Will Be Paid Shortly”
World
The founder of “Telegram,” Pavel Durov, has been released on bail set at €5 million after facing charges on 12 counts, including the use of his platform for illegal activities. Durov left the Paris courthouse under judicial supervision.
According to Durov’s lawyers, the bail will be paid shortly. They argue that it is absurd to hold the founder responsible for crimes committed by other users. They believe that the owner of a platform should not be liable for the illegal actions of others.
Durov was detained at Paris airport on Saturday, despite an active international arrest warrant. In Russia, the arrest was deemed politically motivated, given the previous attempts to block “Telegram” in the country. However, the platform later gained popularity among officials and government agencies.
French President Emmanuel Macron defended the actions of the judiciary, stating that Durov's arrest is part of an independent investigation and is not a political move.
