Turkish Airlines (THY) has announced that it will resume flights to Damascus starting January 23, 2025. This will be the first flight since the Syrian conflict began. According to the official statement from the airline, in line with Syrian government regulations, Israeli and Iranian citizens will not be allowed to enter Syria.

Entry of Iranian and Israeli Citizens into Syria is Prohibited
Under the entry restrictions imposed by the Syrian Arab Republic, Turkish Airlines will only carry passengers who can provide proof of Syrian citizenship. Additionally, Lebanese citizens can enter Syria if one of their parents is a Syrian citizen or if they hold residency or a visa from another country. Journalists will require special authorization to enter Syria.

The statement from Turkish Airlines notes that detailed travel guidelines for passengers flying to Syria are available on their official website. At the same time, the airline will not carry Israeli and Iranian citizens to Syria, as the Syrian government has stated that it will not accept citizens of these countries.

The decision to resume flights was made as part of the ongoing diplomatic normalization between Turkey and Syria. Turkish Airlines had suspended flights to Syria in 2011 due to the civil war, but recent improvements in diplomatic relations between Turkey and Syria have allowed the airline to resume flights to Damascus.
