Mayor with ambitions: Netanyahu is traveling to New York despite the threat of arrest
World
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced his intention to visit New York with Donald Trump, despite Democratic Party candidate Zohran Mamdani's unambiguous warning about possible arrest. Mamdani had previously promised to detain the Prime Minister if he wins the election, citing the International Criminal Court's (ICC) order issued in May 2025.
"I will come to New York with President Trump," Netanyahu commented without showing concern about the loud statements.
Trump supported the Israeli government leader, noting that even after winning the election, the mayor will not be able to act independently: "He will need money anyway. Everything goes through the White House. It would be better if he behaved more neatly."
Zohran Mamdani, originally from South Asia and a Muslim by faith, could become the first mayor of New York with such origins. He has repeatedly criticized Israel's actions in Gaza and emphasized that New York should adhere to international law: "If I were mayor, I would arrest Netanyahu," he stated on television in 2024.

The US, like Israel, does not recognize the jurisdiction of the International Criminal Court, but arrest warrants were issued in connection with suspicions of war crimes in the Gaza Strip.
