Erdogan: Turkey was not found on the street

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has strongly opposed the ongoing protests in the country. He emphasized that the government will never submit to "street terror" and accused the opposition of inciting unrest. According to him, opposition members threaten the stability of the Turkish people by calling for demonstrations that result in attacks on police officers.

Erdogan: Turkey was not found on the street
Erdogan stressed that the government will take all necessary measures to prevent disorder in the country.

"Following marginal groups, attacking our police, threatening our judges and prosecutors, playing with democracy and national will, and resorting to illegal and undemocratic methods will not achieve anything in this country. Turkey is not a country that was found on the street. Turkey will not bow to street terror", — said Erdogan.

The president called the protests illegal and claimed that they are an attempt to conceal illicit wealth accumulation and looting schemes under the guise of an anti-corruption operation.

On March 20, Erdogan made his first public statement regarding the arrest of Istanbul Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu. He said that the opposition is trying to politicize the arrest to cover up its own problems.

"The opposition knows very well that many documents and data regarding the Imamoglu case were submitted to the judiciary by their own officials. The problems of the Republican People's Party are not the problems of our country or our people. They only concern a handful of greedy people in their headquarters. As a party or alliance, we have no time for these opposition shows", — Erdogan stated.
