EU is in a hurry to start negotiations with the US to avoid a trade war

The European Union wants to start a dialogue with the Donald Trump administration as soon as possible to prevent the introduction of new duties on European goods. The head of the EU Foreign Trade Office, Marosh Shefchovich, said that Brussels is ready to immediately begin negotiations, as new tariffs may damage key trade and investment ties between the EU and the USA.
The European Commission Chairperson Ursula von der Leyen emphasized that the EU is ready for complex negotiations, but will firmly defend its interests. The EU is seeking compromise in areas such as supply chains and new technologies, but in the event of pressure from Washington, it is ready to take retaliatory measures.
Trump has already imposed 10% tariffs on Chinese goods, and Canada and Mexico have temporarily avoided the 25% tariff. Now it is the turn for trade restrictions - the European Union. Shefchovich noted that the US trade deficit with the EU is about 50 billion euros, but the European side hopes to resolve the differences through a constructive dialogue.
