First Ambassador appointed to Sri Lanka

Alisher Tukhtaev has been appointed Uzbekistan’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Sri Lanka, operating from his residence in Islamabad. According to the Dunyo News Agency, he presented copies of his credentials to Rohan Ambagolla, Head of State Protocol of the Sri Lankan Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
During the meeting, Ambagolla expressed appreciation for this significant step, describing it as a milestone in strengthening friendly relations between the two nations. He also praised President Shavkat Mirziyoyev’s international initiatives aimed at fostering cooperation with the Global South, enhancing food security, and promoting regional connectivity.
Both sides reaffirmed their interest in expanding practical cooperation in trade, logistics, education, and tourism. A particular focus was placed on developing economic diplomacy and boosting trade turnover, with a target of reaching $50 million in the coming years.
Digital platforms and joint logistics solutions were also discussed to stimulate export-import activity.
