Flood in India: 150 Rescued, 100 Still Missing
On August 5, torrential rains triggered severe flooding and landslides that wiped out the high-altitude village of Dhami in India’s Uttarakhand state. According to The Hindu, 150 people were found alive by rescue teams.

The disaster was caused by the overflowing of the Khir-Ganga River and massive mudslides brought on by monsoon rains. Dramatic footage shared online shows powerful torrents destroying homes, hotels, and other structures in just 20 seconds.

The death toll has risen to five. Around 100 people, including 10 soldiers participating in rescue efforts, are still unaccounted for. Intensive search operations are ongoing, though hampered by continued heavy rainfall.

Drones, military units, and sniffer dogs have been deployed in the rescue efforts. Despite the challenges, operations continue around the clock.

India’s Minister of State for Defence, Sanjay Seth, described the situation as "extremely serious." Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah are closely monitoring the developments.
