Former First Deputy Head of Uzbekistan's Tax Committee Sentenced to 8 Years and 2 Months

The Shaykhantakhur District Criminal Court of Tashkent has sentenced Mubin Mirzayev, the former First Deputy Chairman of Uzbekistan's Tax Committee, along with eight other defendants. Mirzayev was found guilty under several provisions of the Criminal Code and sentenced to eight years and two months in prison.
According to the press service of the Tashkent City Courts, the court convicted Mirzayev under Article 168, Part 4(a) (fraud), Article 205, Part 2(a) (abuse of official authority), and Article 208 (official inaction). In addition to imprisonment, he was barred from holding certain positions or exercising specified rights for three years.
The remaining eight defendants were convicted under various provisions of the Criminal Code, including violations of personal data legislation, tax evasion, breaches of trade and service regulations, forgery and use of counterfeit documents, as well as other criminal offenses.
They received prison sentences ranging from four to nine years. The court also ordered compensation for the damages caused. Under the ruling, the prison terms will be calculated from the date the defendants were placed in pre-trial detention.
