Lecornu’s resignation marks another step in France’s ongoing political reshuffle, as President Emmanuel Macron moves to form a new cabinet.

According to Le Figaro, Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu submitted his resignation to the President, and it was promptly accepted. The name of his successor has not yet been made public.

In the new cabinet, several key ministers retained their positions. Jean-Noël Barrot remains Minister of Foreign Affairs, while the ministers of culture, justice, health, agriculture, and the interior also kept their portfolios.

Bruno Le Maire, formerly Minister of Economy and Finance, has been appointed Minister of Defense — one of the most notable changes in the new government lineup.

Political observers suggest that the reshuffle may be aimed at consolidating the government’s position ahead of parliamentary debates and the upcoming European Parliament elections.
