The reason for the strike is a dispute over wages. Employers have not made any proposals for salary increases, which has led to strong criticism from the union.

German doctors and nurses announced a strike
The Verdi union has called for a nationwide strike in clinics, nursing homes, and emergency services. The protest will take place on Thursday, March 6, and will affect state and municipal institutions, potentially causing serious disruptions in the healthcare system.

“Everyone knows how important the role of medical staff is, but employers fail to recognize it. The proposal to either slightly increase wages or keep them unchanged for three years is an insult,” said union representative Silvia Bühler.

Verdi is demanding an 8% salary increase (at least €350 per month), higher allowances for working in difficult conditions, and an additional €200 payment for trainees. The union is also pushing for more paid days off. Employers have deemed these demands too costly and refused to meet them.

The next round of negotiations is scheduled for March 14–16 in Potsdam.
