Thailand’s Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul has announced the dissolution of parliament, saying the decision “returns power to the people.” The move comes amid growing tensions between the government and the largest opposition group, the People’s Party.

Following the announcement, King Maha Vajiralongkorn approved the dissolution decree, clearing the way for early elections. Under Thai law, the vote must take place within 45–60 days.

Anutin stated that the political shake-up will not affect military operations along the border, where clashes — including exchanges of heavy artillery fire — continue in more than a dozen locations.

The political crisis coincides with rising tensions between Thailand and Cambodia. Recent border fighting has left at least 20 people dead and around 200 injured.
