Germany plans to deport Afghan refugees via Uzbekistan
World
Negotiations between the governments of Germany and Uzbekistan on this issue are already underway. Der Spiegel has published details of the discussions between the two countries regarding the conditions for deporting Afghan refugees.
According to the publication, the German government intends to send Afghan nationals without asylum rights to Tashkent, from where they will be transported by charter flights to Kabul. The talks were constructive, and the Uzbek government has promised assistance. This route allows Germany to avoid direct negotiations with the Taliban while still enabling the deportation of Afghans. Currently, around 13,000 Afghans are slated for deportation from Germany.
Debates over the deportation of migrants without asylum rights intensified at the end of May 2024 after an Afghan attacked participants in a rally criticizing Islam, fatally wounding a police officer.
