According to its data, the maximum speed of wind gusts reached 71 m/s, which corresponds to the fifth category on the Saffir-Simpson scale, which characterises hurricanes of maximum strength.

Beryl is currently 490 kilometres from Puerto Rico and continues to move northwest at a speed of 35 km/h.

Earlier, the centre issued a warning of life-threatening winds and storm surge for the Windward Islands.
