Joe Kent, Director of the US National Counterterrorism Center, has resigned over concerns about potential military action against Iran, highlighting growing divisions within the US administration.

“I Cannot Support War”: US Counterterrorism Chief Resigns
Kent said he could not “in good conscience” support the prospect of war, questioning the justification for possible strikes against Iran. He had been leading a key agency responsible for analyzing terrorist threats and coordinating federal responses.

His resignation underscores internal disagreements even among supporters of President Donald Trump.

Trump criticized Kent, calling him “weak on security” and stating that officials who do not view Iran as a threat are not needed.

Meanwhile, some lawmakers supported Kent’s stance. Senator Mark Warner said there was insufficient evidence of an imminent threat from Iran to justify another war in the Middle East.

Other officials, including House Speaker Mike Johnson, insisted the threat was real, citing Iran’s advancing nuclear and missile capabilities.

The resignation comes amid rising concerns over domestic security following recent attacks in Michigan and Virginia.

The issue is expected to be a key topic in upcoming congressional hearings involving US intelligence leaders.
