Ilham Aliyev wins presidential election with 92.05 percent of votes
Azerbaijan's incumbent President Ilham Aliyev, running for a fifth term, is leading in the extraordinary presidential elections held in the republic on 7 February with 92.05% of votes. Such data was announced on air of AzTv TV channel by head of Azerbaijan's Central Election Commission Mazahir Panahov on the results of processing protocols from more than 93% of polling stations.

MP and self-nominated candidate Zahid Oruj came second with 2.19 per cent.

According to the CEC, the final turnout in the election was 76.73 per cent, with 4,971,032 out of 6,478,840 registered voters taking part. In the last elections in 2018, the figure was 74.5 per cent.

For the first time in Azerbaijan's history, the elections were held on the entire territory of the country, including the districts of Karabakh returned to Baku's control. In Karabakh, 26 polling stations were opened and 23,000 people were registered in the voting lists. According to the CEC, the turnout there was one of the highest in the country.

Belarus leader Alexander Lukashenko and Uzbekistan President Shavkat Mirziyoyev were the first to congratulate Aliyev. Then Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan spoke to the Azerbaijani leader. Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban was the first and so far the only EU leader to congratulate Aliyev.

Immediately after the CEC announced the first official data on the results of processing protocols from 54.47% of polling stations, Aliyev was congratulated by Chinese President Xi Jinping, who sent him a telegram.
