Uzbekistan in Talks with World Cup Winner — But Not as Head Coach
Sport
Negotiations between the Uzbekistan Football Association (UFA) and former Germany national team coach Joachim Löw are indeed taking place, according to informed sources. However, the talks are not about appointing him as head coach, as previously speculated, but rather about offering him a role as a strategic consultant.
Sources close to the negotiations report that contact with Löw was established some time ago, and the German specialist has shown interest in potential collaboration. The proposal envisions him acting as an external expert tasked with overseeing the national team’s strategic preparation for its debut appearance at the FIFA World Cup. His responsibilities may include tactical analysis, the development of a long-term training strategy, and methodological support for the coaching staff.
Nevertheless, there is no consensus within the UFA regarding Löw's potential involvement. The leadership is reportedly split into two camps: one group is pushing for him to be appointed head coach, citing his vast experience and World Cup success; the other is advocating to retain Timur Kapadze, who led the team to qualify for the World Cup for the first time in history.
For reference, Joachim Löw managed the German national team for 15 years, overseeing 198 matches and winning the World Cup in 2014.
