In Uzbekistan, corruption in sports will not go unpunished

At the fifty-second plenary session of the Senate, the Law "On Amendments to the Criminal Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan to Prevent Corruption in Sports" was discussed.

The meeting noted that in recent years, large-scale reforms have been carried out in the country to popularize and develop sports, as well as to modernize sports infrastructure.
At the same time, it was emphasized that there is a need to introduce new norms into legislative acts in this area aimed at preventing and combating corruption in sports.
"The Law introduces amendments to the Criminal Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan, establishing liability for illegal receipt by participants and organizers of sports competitions of material values or property benefits, as well as for bribing participants and organizers of sports competitions," the statement said.
According to senators, the new Law contributes to the improvement of national legislation in line with modern international standards and advanced foreign experience, the formation of an uncompromising attitude towards corruption, ensuring the inevitability of punishment for crimes in the field of sports, as well as strengthening the image of the republic on the international stage.
Following the discussion, the Law was unanimously approved by the senators.
