The new head of the Communications Service of Tajikistan, Isfandiyor Sa'dullo, promised to reduce Internet prices in the near future during a press conference on January 29, 2025. He also stated that providers need to take additional measures to improve the quality of the connection. In particular, plans are in place to install batteries to ensure the connection during power outages.
Sa'dullo highlighted that the quality of the Internet has improved in recent years, but the growing number of users is putting extra strain on the network. He gave the example of an increase in bloggers and video content.
Currently, Tajikistan has 4.5 million Internet users. He also explained that the country’s mountainous location affects the speed of the Internet.
The new head of the Communications Service also mentioned that three mobile companies are currently testing 5G Internet. Tajikistan is one of the most expensive countries in Central Asia when it comes to Internet prices. According to a ranking from early 2024, the average cost of 1 GB of Internet in Tajikistan is $1.65, which is much higher than in Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, and Kazakhstan.
In addition, Tajikistan is among the countries with the slowest mobile Internet in the world. Sa'dullo also mentioned that there are more than 8 million mobile and fixed-line users in the country, with over 5 million being active subscribers. Last year, many new base stations were installed, and fiber optic lines were laid to improve the quality of communication.
