The strikes on Sunday targeted tents housing displaced individuals, leaving numerous others trapped in the flaming debris, according to Palestinian health workers.

The Gaza Health Ministry confirmed that the majority of the casualties were women and children, with dozens more wounded. This attack follows an order from the International Court of Justice (ICJ) two days prior, demanding that Israel end its military offensive in Rafah. Over half of Gaza's 2.3 million population had sought refuge in Rafah before Israel's incursion earlier this month.

Despite the ICJ's ruling, the situation remains dire. Tens of thousands of people are still in the area, while many others have fled. Since Israel's limited incursion into Rafah on May 6, southern Gaza has been largely cut off from aid. Over 1 million Palestinians, many already displaced, have left the city.

Currently, around 80% of Gaza's 2.3 million people have fled their homes, severe hunger is widespread.
