Despite the public nature of Israel’s preparations and the geographical distance, the assault proved surprisingly effective. Dozens of military sites were hit, with no confirmed losses of Israeli aircraft.

Israel's Attack on Iran: Initial Assessments and Military Analysis
Military analysts believe some of the strikes were carried out using long-range cruise missiles, raising further concerns about Iran’s PVO effectiveness. Particularly alarming was the death of senior military commanders and nuclear scientists, who were supposed to be well protected.

According to Reuters, the operation went beyond airstrikes. Israeli intelligence agency Mossad reportedly conducted covert operations inside Iran, deploying precision weapons near air defense systems and establishing a drone strike base near Tehran.

Israeli military expert David Gendelman attributes the success of the first phase to surprise and deep reconnaissance. He reported that over 200 aircraft struck more than 100 targets. The operation is ongoing and may continue for several weeks.

Judging by the nature of the targets, this appears to be the start of a larger campaign. Israel seems focused on degrading Iran’s defense infrastructure and neutralizing its capacity for retaliation. The success of this initial stage may determine the scale of future escalation.
