The decisive matches of the Freestyle Chess Grand Slam 2025, with a prize fund of $750,000, are taking place in Weissenhaus, Germany. One of the tournament's main favorites, Sindorov, remains in the fight for the title.

Intense Semifinal Against Caruana.  The first semifinal match between Sindorov and Caruana was a tense battle. Playing with the black pieces, the Uzbek grandmaster demonstrated solid defensive skills. Caruana made a critical mistake on move 46, which could have led to his defeat. However, Sindorov was unable to fully capitalize on the opportunity, and the game ended in a draw.

The Other Semifinal and the Fight for 5th-8th Places. In the other semifinal, German grandmaster Vincent Keymer shocked the chess world by defeating Magnus Carlsen. Now, Keymer needs only a draw to secure a spot in the final, while Sindorov must win.

Meanwhile, matches for 5th-8th places also took place yesterday. The games between Nodirbek Abdusattorov and Alireza Firouzja, as well as Hikaru Nakamura and Gukesh Dommaraju, ended in draws. The players will compete in rematches today.

It’s worth noting that in the quarterfinals, 19-year-old Uzbek grandmaster caused a major upset by defeating five-time U.S. champion Hikaru Nakamura, winning both tiebreak games.

The Final Is Near. The tournament's final will take place on February 13-14, where the main prize and a place in chess history will be at stake.
