On October 8, Hans Ellegren, Secretary-General of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, presented the prize during a ceremony in Stockholm. Hopfield is affiliated with Princeton University in the U.S., while Hinton represents the University of Toronto in Canada.

Their groundbreaking research has paved the way for advancements in artificial intelligence, enabling the modeling of brain functions through neural networks. These achievements have significantly boosted the field of machine learning.

Last year, the Nobel Prize in Physics was awarded to Pierre Agostini, Ferenc Krausz, and Anne L’Huillier for their work on short light pulses used to observe the movement of electrons in atoms and molecules.

The remaining 2024 Nobel Prize winners, in chemistry, economics, literature, and peace, will be announced throughout the week.
