According to the publication, this concession was included in the revised version of the U.S. “peace plan” that Kyiv sent to President Donald Trump. The step is considered one of Ukraine’s most significant compromises in the current negotiations involving the U.S. and Russia.

Kyiv insists that the withdrawal of forces must be symmetrical on both sides of the frontline. As presidential adviser Mykhailo Podolyak explained, it will be necessary to legally define whether the zone must be completely free of weapons or only heavy arms.

To prevent violations, Ukraine proposes involving international monitoring missions and a foreign contingent to ensure compliance with the agreed principles and terms.
