Uzbekistan
François Mitterrand, the 21st president of France, visited Samarkand in 1994. 29 years later, Emmanuel Macron became the second French president to visit Central Asia.
Speaking at the Uzbek-French business forum, French President Emmanuel Macron noted that positive reforms in Uzbekistan play an important role in the investment of French companies in the Central Asian region.
"Separately, I must emphasise that reforms in your country have reached a new stage, which is very important to support French investment in the region," he said.
Also during his speech, Macron recalled that the 21st French President Francois Mitterrand visited Samarkand in 1994.
"After President Mitterrand, no French president has visited this region. We will definitely rectify this. French companies should further expand their activities in this region. I wish the businessmen of the two countries success in their work. Long live friendship between our countries!" - concluded Emmanuel Macron.
