French President Emmanuel Macron has announced his intention to sign a bilateral deal on security guarantees for Ukraine during the visit of Volodymyr Zelensky.
Macron commented on the upcoming meeting with Zelensky in France and Germany. He confirmed that the bilateral meeting is scheduled for 16 February and announced his intention to sign a deal on security guarantees for Ukraine. France will become the second country to conclude such an agreement with Ukraine.
In November 2023, French Foreign Ministry spokesperson Anne-Claire Lejeandre revealed details of Paris' provision of security guarantees for Ukraine. The deal will include long-term military support, as well as touch upon humanitarian aspects and participation in Ukraine's reconstruction process.
On 12 January, British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak signed a similar bilateral deal with Zelensky during his visit to Kiev. It will be valid until Ukraine joins NATO or for ten years with the possibility of extension.
