During a meeting with Wang Dongming, Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People&rsquo;s Congress, the sides discussed further development of inter-parliamentary cooperation and implementation of tasks set by the leaders of Uzbekistan and China. They also considered the possibility of organizing a visit to Uzbekistan by a delegation of the National People&rsquo;s Congress. The meeting noted that Uzbekistan-China relations have reached a high level in recent years, with Wang Dongming highlighting the important role played by the two countries&rsquo; leaders in this process. The academic agenda included meetings with Gao Xiang, President of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Gao Song, President of Peking University, and Li Luming, President of Tsinghua University. A delegation from Uzbekistan led by Sodiq Safoyev, First Deputy Chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis, participated in an international conference in Beijing on August 24–26 focused on cooperation and building a community with a shared future among Asian countries. The visit also included discussions on expanding parliamentary ties and cooperation between leading higher education and research institutions in Uzbekistan and China.

The project was implemented pursuant to an order by the Chairman of the Board of Uzbekistan Railways JSC on expanding the MPS Turon system and establishing a dedicated training center. The opening ceremony was attended by A.A. Umaraliyev, Head of the Youth and Social Projects Department of Uzbekistan Railways JSC, and S.S. Asrorov, Head of the Bukhara Regional Railway Junction. The facility provides the necessary conditions for studying modern railway technologies, strengthening practical skills and training qualified specialists. Training will focus on the deployment and effective operation of four systems developed by local specialists: MPS Turon, MPAB Turon, DTS Turon and MAPS Turon. The center has an annual training capacity of 28 specialists, including eight programmers and 20 installation electromechanics specialists. A new MPS Turon Training and Practical Center has been commissioned in the Navoi Region to train specialists in the deployment of modern digital technologies across Uzbekistan’s railway sector. The center was established within the Navoi Signalling and Communications Division of the Bukhara Regional Railway Junction.

The project was implemented in cooperation with China&rsquo;s China Energy Overseas Investment. It has created 30 permanent jobs. The facility is expected to generate 657 million kWh of green electricity annually. According to Uzbekistan&rsquo;s Ministry of Energy, this volume is equivalent to the annual electricity consumption of 273,000 households. The project is expected to save 175 million cubic meters of natural gas annually and prevent the release of 377,000 tonnes of harmful emissions into the atmosphere. According to the latest weekly report from the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), the figures cover the period from April 6 to August 16, 2026. Around 9,600 deaths were associated with the extreme heat between June 22 and 28, while another 4,000 deaths were linked to high temperatures between July 27 and August 16. About 11,900 heat-related deaths occurred among people aged over 75. The latest estimate is well above the previous highs recorded in recent years. RKI estimates put heat-related deaths at around 8,700 in 2018 and 6,900 in 2019. Historical estimates for Germany indicate that extreme heat was associated with approximately 10,100 deaths in 1994. RKI stresses that the figures are statistical estimates, as heat is not always recorded as the direct cause of death. Researchers compare mortality, temperature and other statistical data to determine the extent to which deaths exceed normal levels during periods of extreme heat. The most severe period occurred in late June. Extreme heat in Germany was linked to an estimated 15,800 deaths from the beginning of the warm season through mid-August, marking the highest level recorded under comparable estimates. People aged over 75 accounted for the largest share of the deaths.

The plans were announced by Tashkent Mayor Shavkat Umurzakov during a ceremony attended by the President to launch new facilities. According to Umurzakov, the capital aims to attract $9 billion in investment and increase exports to $4 billion by the end of 2026. During the first eight months of the year, Tashkent attracted $5.6 billion in investment, compared with $2.7 billion in 2024. &ldquo;We have been preparing for this for a long time. This project is very important for us; it is necessary,&rdquo; President Mirziyoyev said. The project is being developed by DP World in partnership with Tashkent Invest, a subsidiary of the Tashkent city administration. DP World will hold an 85% stake in the joint venture, while Tashkent Invest will own 15%. The terminal will occupy approximately 82 hectares within the Yangi Avlod Special Industrial Zone. Total investment is expected to exceed $288 million. According to DP World, the facility will include a rail-connected dry port, customs clearance zones, vehicle storage areas, warehouses and cross-docking facilities. The first phase will include a rail terminal with annual capacity of 150,000 TEU and a warehouse complex covering 63,000 square metres. The logistics hub will have direct access to Uzbekistan&rsquo;s national railway network, major highways and Tashkent International Airport. DP World sees the facility as a link connecting Central Asia with the Middle East and Europe. The capital is also advancing other investment projects. According to the mayor, 14 projects are expected to reach full capacity in about three years, generating $3 billion worth of products annually and supporting $1.5 billion in exports. Ratcliffe&rsquo;s trip was the first publicly known visit by a CIA director to Moscow since November 2021, when then-CIA Director William Burns met with Russian officials and warned about the consequences of a potential invasion of Ukraine.
