The Legislative Chamber approved a draft law aimed at preventing torture during the criminal investigation process. According to this draft law, a mandatory medical examination procedure will be implemented before placing a person in an investigation detention facility.

On January 21, the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis reviewed and approved the draft law in its second and third readings. The law now needs to be approved by the Senate.

The draft law envisions amendments to the law on "Detention during criminal proceedings." According to this law, a person must undergo a medical examination within two hours after arriving at the detention facility.

During the medical examination, the following aspects will be observed:

If any injuries or harm to the person’s body are detected, the prosecutor will be notified immediately.

The medical examination will be conducted at the investigation detention facility.

The main objective of the draft law is to eliminate the possibility of torture, protect human rights, and ensure transparency during the investigation process.

This measure is considered an important step toward ensuring human rights in accordance with international standards.
