During the visit of the Uzbek delegation to Madrid, led by the First Deputy Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis and Rector of the University of World Economy and Diplomacy, Sodiq Safoyev, and Chairman of the State Tourism Committee, Umid Shodiyev, a meeting was held with the Secretary-General of the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), Zurab Pololikashvili.

The discussions focused on the prospects of expanding cooperation between Uzbekistan and UNWTO. It was highlighted that Uzbekistan not only actively implements advanced initiatives but also sets high standards for other countries.

UNWTO Secretary-General Zurab Pololikashvili expressed his gratitude to the President of Uzbekistan for his progressive policies and continuous support for the tourism sector, noting that each new project opens broad opportunities for the development of both national and global tourism.

The meeting primarily emphasized the implementation of the UN resolution “2027 – International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development” and the importance of educational initiatives in ensuring sustainable development in the tourism sector.

At the conclusion of the meeting, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the University of World Economy and Diplomacy and UNWTO, along with a cooperation agreement facilitating internships for UWED students within the organization.
