Meta May Open an Office in Uzbekistan

Uzbekistan is discussing the possibility of opening an official Meta office — the company behind Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Threads. The news followed a meeting between Meta representatives and the National Agency for Perspective Projects (NAPP).
The discussion focused on three main areas:
– opening a Meta representative office in Uzbekistan;
– enhancing cooperation to prevent advertising fraud on Meta platforms;
– supporting local digital content creators and developing monetization tools.
Meta was represented by Sariim Aziz, Director of Public Policy for South and Central Asia; Senura Abeywardena, Head of Public Policy for Central Asia, Mongolia, Sri Lanka, and the Maldives; and regional managers Aurora Li and Yerasil Kalikhan.
Both sides stressed the importance of establishing direct dialogue on digital platform regulation, user protection, and fair monetization systems. Topics such as digital security, advertising transparency, and responsible online behavior were also discussed.
The meeting concluded with an agreement to continue cooperation and explore specific partnership initiatives.
